Can the extinction of dinosaurs really be explained by a massive hole in southeastern Mexico? That's what we've thought for years. However, as new studies are occurring, the real explanation gets a little bit more complicated. To begin with, there were many volcanic eruptions in western India, or what it is today. These were known as the Deccan Traps, which led to a noxious gas that has many believing it's the leading reason for what cause the extinction. In addition to the Deccan Traps, there is also a large crater near it, which would be the largest crater ever found on Earth if it was reported to be from an asteroid. The Boltysh crater in Ukraine measuring at 15 miles in diameter gives us a lead that Earth was hit by an asteroid shower about 65 million years ago. Other known crater-like structures and earthquakes from space, help try to add the puzzle pieces and identify a better explanation. However, it would have taken a major catastrophe to completely rule out the dinosaurs 150 million year supremacy on Earth.
This article relates to biology by using these new findings to make sense of what happened in the past and how someday, maybe it could affect the human race. Scientists and researchers are beginning to further experiment on this study and utilize the different pieces of the the puzzle they have found and what is yet to be found.
This article was published to let the population know that there was more into the history of dinosaurs than what we already knew and assumed. It keeps us informed of the past and gives a different outlook on Earth many, many years ago. And maybe it's something the future could have in hold as well..
