Killer Soap

We all know that soap is suppose to clean things, but have you ever thought about what it does not clean? Yes, that is water. Antibacterial soap often contain a chemical called triclosan. This chemical is very bad for the organisms. This chemical often end up in lakes and ponds after we have washed our hands and there, it turns into a potential toxic chemical. It is believed that this chemical harms the organism by disturbing its hormones. These hormones are in charged of growth and reproduction. It is also believed that this chemical has something to do with the dioxins in a Minnesota lake.

This article is related to science because the environment is being affected by triclosan in antibacterial soaps. Wild life is being killed and disturbed by the soap and it is because of us. If these fishes are effected, then the organism that eats that fish might also get this. These organisms that are effected might get mutated and it might just be the next big disease, like SARS.

We should all care about this because first of all, these innocent wild life animals are being harmed because we can't use a chemical that doesn't effect the environment so much. Secondly, we might be one of the people that might catch a fish with these potential toxic chemical in them. No one really know what might happen to us if we do eat a fish with these chemicals in them.
