Climate Change Makes You FAT

As we can all feel, our summer has been noticeably hotter now than five years ago. As we enjoy these fantastic long summer days, so are other animals on this planet. Marmots, a type of large, land-dwelling squirrel, is also doing the same. According to a 33 years research, the results showed that these land squirrels have became fatter and there are now more of them. The results also showed that the marmots are also waking up about 21 days earlier from hibernation than before. With these 21 extra days, they are able to eat more and get fatter. Female marmots are about one full pound heavier than before.

This article is related to science and biology because this shows what global warming can to the the environment and also to the organisms. The weather is now warmer so that these animals have a longer period of time out in the sun than hibernating and since the weather is getter warmer earlier, these animals are waking up earlier. There is also a chain reaction because if the prey are increasing in numbers, then so will the predictors. In this case, the predictors are foxes and coyotes.

If this keep happening, they will reproduce more and more frequently. These marmots might use up all the resources. This is important because the marmots are giving us an example of what might happen if we dont stop global warming. If these marmots keep increasing, they might destroy the environments and they will also take up the space of other species. The last thing we want is for them to live in our house.
