High Heels Hurt !

High heels have now been proven to actually alter the anatomies of women. They can affect the structure of the tendons and calf muscles. A study was done of several women of varying ages who had been been wearing at least 2 inch heels everyday for two years. After the study, 11 out of 80 claimed that they felt discomfort while wearing flats. Ultrasounds were taken and compared to women who did not wear high heels. The study found that the women who wore the heels had shorter calf muscle fibers than those who did not. MRI's also showed that they had a stiffer and thicker Achilles tendon.

This article relates to science and biology concepts because the high heels are physically altering the structure of some major body parts like the tendons and calf muscles in women. By shortening their length, over time, it is possible to even have some type of evolutionary adaptation where all women's calf muscles become shorter and their tendons to be thicker and stiffer. This, of course, is only if the wearing of high heels becomes over-whelming popular and with all the new fashions, it isn't that unlikely.

We should care because researchers say that over time, this can cause women a lot of pain when they try to walk in flats or sneakers. This can lead to a lot of other problems for the modern women. It's important that people be aware of these types of things so that they can make safer, and more careful lifestyle choices to have a healthier life.
