People who have anemia have a few way to survive, one is by having a blood donor transferring blood into their body. In some cases, there are people who have Blood Type O, which is rare to find its own donor. So, is there an alternative? Now, scientists are trying to find ways to create human blood using human umbilical cord. In 2008, researchers of Chicago had succeeded in trying to create small amount of human blood in their lab. A scientist, Arteriocyte, had discovered how to make multi red bloods by taking stem cells that are from discarded human umbilical cords. By doing that, he can turn them into oxygen, which carries red stuff produced by the marrow in the bones, and produce about 19 pints of red blood cells with only one human umbilical cord. With this new technique, people would endure less pain, faster process of regaining blood, and save time from finding the right one for donor. Arteriocyte and Jon Mogford , a Deputy Director of the Defense Sciences Office, are trying to find ways to create Blood Type O, which is universal. As Mogfold had said, the natural blood and this engineered blood had no differences, regardless the fact that natural blood comes from the marrow of the bones.

Blood is one of the most important things needed in all organisms. This is related to the concept of biology because scientists are trying to find ways to create human blood, and trying to test out “unnatural” blood to inject into humans. Instead of putting up a surgery and go through so much trouble, they can just inject the engineered blood into the body. It actually takes about 120 days to recover all of the blood in the body and many processes for a single blood surgery. Compared to the laboratory blood, human red bloods are created from marrow of the bones in an organism, rather than human umbilical cord.

We should care because there are people out there in the world, people with Blood Type O, is in need of blood donor. Blood Type O is pretty rare to find, but with this new idea, we can save this person in seconds. People with anemia can cure faster and have an accurate result. Blood is also one of the most important things for the body. They are needed for transportation of oxygen and food, carry waste out of cells, fight white blood cells, maintaining a constant temperature in the body, and sealing up scabs. Thus, lack of blood can be dangerous or can be deathly.
