Mayra Lissette Conteras died after receiving injections of silicone into her buttocks. She is reported to have died from respiratory problems. When silicone is used for breast implants, a capsule covers it so the body will not react to it. When the silicone was injected into Conteras, it did not have a capsule so her body reacted and as a result she died. Underground surgeons have practiced this method but the correct way to do so is to implant the silicone. Injections of silicone can leave serious medical consequences that range from scars to death.
