The Internet has now become an essential in today’s society. Everything is done on over the Internet and everything can be found on the Internet such as weather, food recipes, and much much more. But the rise of the use of the Internet has many sitting in their rooms surfing the web for hours without knowing what is happening outside their doors. In China, 1,000 teens were studied to see if their usage of the Internet leads to depression. Not only can it lead to depression but it can lead to other mental and health issues such as obesity. After studying these teens for nine months, the study shows that teens who would use the internet “pathologically” during the test period were 2.5 times more likely to be depressed that those who hadn’t.
This topic relates to science and biology through neuroscience and health. Neuroscience is the study of the brain where mental issues such as depression occur. The brain is what is needed to function and without a properly working one, disabilities occur.
We should care about this because the people who become addicted to the Internet are those who will be depressed. This person could be your friend, family, or a loved one. Not only does it pain the person who is depressed but also the people around them. This can cause a chain reaction and majority of people will be depressed.
