“Ocean Greenery under warming stress”

Researchers are finding that many marine ecosystems are being destroyed due to climate change. And not only large marine life are suffering, tiny marine phytoplankton are as well. These tiny organisms have an essential role in our large world. They account for close to half of the Earth’s photosynthetic biomass. But recently scientists have found that they have been declining in population for about a century.

This relates to science and biology through ecology. Phytoplankton not only contributes to the carbon cycle, but they also contribute to the food chain. As these organisms decline the prey that use them as food supply will begin to decline as well. When each marine organism begins to decline in the abundance of their population then it causes a chain reaction in the ecosystem, which leads to decreases in organisms. As each organism being to fade so will their habitat, which later begins to effect other major ecosystems.

The role of these plankton are so important because they produce more than one half of the Earth’s oxygen. If these organisms keep declining on a rapid slope then it can greatly contribute to Global Warming.
