Ebola is a terrible viral disease that destroys and liquefies the body in 9 to 11 days. The virus has a 90 percent lethality rate it is one of the most potent viruses in the world. It originated in the rain forests of Africa, and discovered in 1976 in Zaire. The virus contracted from direct exposure to bodily fluids of someone who is infected. The symptoms are very mild at first and that just adds to its deadliness. At first there is headaches muscle pain and back pain. The aches worsen and the whites of the eyes become red. Then kicks into over drive as it causes fever, diarrhea, vomiting (sometimes with blood), and arises liver and kidney problems. Generally death is causes by massive hemorrhaging coupled with kidney and liver failure. As for the article, it gives hope in discovering a vaccine to the deadly pathogen. The power of Ebola is revealed for it is wrapped in a special coat of benign carbohydrates that enables it to bypass the immune system and gain access to the cells. The discovery was made by observing a sample of bone marrow from a survivor.
This article relates to pathology, the study of pathogens. Pathology helps us uncover the mysteries of the smallest things that can devastate something as large as our civilization. Pathology is the expansion of knowledge of the microscopic world and its predators. But most of all pathology reminds us no matter how powerful and mighty human think they are, we can be taken down by something smaller then the period of this sentence.
This article is important for several reasons this is a huge leap in the long journey to find a vaccine for the disease. It also not only tells us of the virus's weakness but also tells us of the virus itself it provided background information for the general public and also tell of the progression of research. The research can save many lives and ensure that this virus doesn't devastate largely populated cities.
