Young owl flies to freedom with new set of eyes

This article is about a young horned owl named Minerva who is a little different than your average owl. It all started when a woman called a veterinarian because she saw the poor owl just sitting on a fence for three days straight. When they veterinarian got there she needed to call the Wildlife of Wisconsin, or WOW. They came and it turns out the owl was suffering from dehydration and something else was wrong, the owl couldn't see. It turns out that the owl had cataracts in her eyes. They had to do surgery and take the cataracts out, so now Minerva is the only animal in the world with fake lenses that allow her to see and prey.

This relates to science and biology because it disucusses poor animals like Minerva and surgery on the eyes that could be life changing. People get cataracts taken out of their eyes all the time. Its a pretty common problem that can be simply fixed so now we can use this power of science to improve even more lives even if its just animals lives.

We should care because this could be a whole new world for animals that can't see. Now that they have the right technology vets might be able to give a new sight on life for animals like Minerva who didn't know what to do. She couldn't see so she couldn't catch prey for food. That could be the case for other animals too, we just don't know it. Now we might be able to save lives with this surgery for animals.
