Mosquitoes are tiny little insects that give a lot of annoyance to people. Mosquitoes are always biting people everywhere, which causes a lot of itchiness and sometimes pain. About 2 weeks ago scientists discovered that mosquitoes here in Massachusetts, tested positive for the triple E virus. Many precautions are being taken with this new finding. Last year, mosquitoes tested negative, but all of a sudden they test positive this year. A professional baseball player actually got infected himself, and he barely survived. His name is Derek Ashworth. He got infected with the triple E virus himself and he was told that he had a 50/50 chance of surviving, and that he was in coma for seven days. Planes were set on Tuesday to spray 285,000 acres of land from the sky. So the spraying locations would include, forests, parks, and a lot of towns. Fifteen communities will be partially sprayed at least, so there will be some protection for at least some part of the community.
Mosquitoes are very common in the summer, since its warm and hot weather, and that's when most of its host, us humans, come out more and have fun. This article relates to the biology concept of the triple E virus affecting many populations, if not sprayed soon. The triple E virus is a deadly virus that can cause death. Triple E has no cure, so the only way to not get the virus is to prevent it. Triple E virus stands for, Eastern equine encephalitis. This virus is commonly seen on horses, but sometimes on humans too. The virus is spread from a cycle between bird to mosquitoe. Triple E is commonly called sleeping sickness, because using the example of Derek Ashworth, who was in a coma for seven days. Seven days is a whole week, without waking up from a deep sleep. Humans have a 35% fatality rate with the virus, and there is no vaccine for the virus. Basically, once anyone has the virus, you will be more dead than alive.
The possibility of spraying would at least decrease and possibly kill any mosquitoes that may be infected in any part of the areas that are subjected to be infected with the triple E virus. This article was put on the news, so that we are able to at least get an idea as to what might happen if any person gets the virus. We should care about this because this virus may spread nation wide, so we need the spraying to not be delayed and to be ready by at least this week. The faster we try to fill the area with at least some protection, the more we can do to protect ourselves. To prevent any of this, people should apply bug spray, if they will be outside, so that mosquitoes won't even get near. So the spraying will come soon, but we have to do our own part to protect ourselves. The government can't all do it for us. So that the triple E virus doesn't take many lives, let's keep using bug spray and try to not let get infected.
