Salmonella ella ella aye aye!!!!

We have all seen in the news the recall of over half a billion of eggs. The egg scare did not just occur because of its expiration date. Its scare was because of a bacterial infection that begins in the intestines of mammals. The more we learn about this sickness, the better we understand the significant of the scare.
In this article, a lady describes how salmonella almost took her life. For most people the infection is not deadly. But approximately 400 people in the United States die every year due to salmonella. The current recall of eggs affected Barbara Pruitt greatly, a 42 year old woman who thought the infection was just a simple flu with symptoms like achiness, fatigue and nausea. Her symptoms became worse, she started vomiting and losing control of her bowels. The doctors ended up removing her small intestines. The cause of her illness was Salmonella typhimurium, which is not the same Salmonella that caused the massive recall of eggs. "For salmonella to cause severe damage, the bacteria leaves the intestine and enter the bloodstream." Her life has never been the same. "My whole day revolves around dealing with my medical issues or us working around my medical issues," she said. "We now plan how I can participate rather than focusing on the enjoyment of anything that we would like to do."
This infection not only affects your system but it also affects your entire life.

Salmonella is a genus of rod shaped bacterium that is the cause of food poisoning and typhoid fever. They are chemoorganotrophs(organism which use organic compounds as their energy source) that obtain their energy from oxidation and reduction reaction. When someone consumes food with salmonella, the organism enters through the digestive tract. the infection occurs as a result of massive ingestion of foods in which the bacteria are highly concentrated. After a short period of a few hours or day, the germ multiplies in the intestinal lumen causing an intestinal inflammation with diarrhea that is often bloody.

This information is important because we all eat eggs at least once a month, so when an infection that could possible danger our digestive system, it becomes our duty to have knowledge of the food that we are consuming. This article was related to the recall of eggs because of the infection they could possibly contain. this article emphasizes on the infection and what it can possible do. Although its not the same type of salmonella that is in the eggs, it is still important for us to be aware of the bacteria infection and what it is capable of.
