Scientist have been recently trying to figure out where the garbage patch in the Atlantic Ocean has gone. The amount of plastic was recorded to not have increased in the past 20 years. The only thing is, no one knows for sure where it is because plastic use has increased overall. Some speculations are that the plastic bits have broken down to a size that is too small for the scientists to see or that the smaller pieces may have been eaten by sea animals thinking that they were krill or plankton. Another suggestion is that marine bacteria is causing the plastic to sink down to the bottom.
This article has to do with biology because it has to do with the environment in the sea and it could affect things like the animals in it.
We should care because researchers are not able to test for the age of the plastic or where it is originating from. This is not good because there isn't a way of knowing if the amount of plastic will increase or decrease with time.
