The Internet helps make Realtionships

The Internet has became one of the most influential things on human kind for as long I can remember. Many people would believe that the Internet is poisoning humans and making them loose their own mind. In other words, computer technology has affected us immensely. According to Science Daily, people who have Internet at home are more likely to develop romantic relationships than people who don’t have Internet access at home. When I first read the title, I thought that this sounded ridiculous because how can the Internet affect the kind of relationships people had with each other? But the article stated that since there have been so many new dating sites, then it makes it easier for people to find their mates online instead of in person. This may seem like a benefit, but in fact it could actually have a negative affect. In other words, people will never be able to actually get to know a person based on their personality if they never meet them for the first time in person. Also, the cyber world has many dangers, including that people always don’t turn out to be who they seem. However, statistics show that more people are in a relationship if they have Internet in their home. Specifically, the article includes that 82.2 % of people who had a partner also had Internet at home, whereas only 62.8 % had partners, but no online access. Even though most Americans find their mates online, it could possibly reduce the amount of actual friends they have. In other words, if people are currently starting relationships online, then what about the people they see on a day- to- day basis? Therefore, the Internet in fact has its flaws when it comes to the lives of Americans.

This article relates to science because it has to do with the mind and brain. Even though this story doesn’t scientifically state how the the use of Internet affects a person, it is apparent that the Internet affects a person’s state of mind. The Internet makes it harder for Americans to think for themselves and do things on their own. Meeting a person online decreases a person’s ability to use their own senses and mind to figure out if they’re compatible with the other person. The cyber world affects a person’s brain and makes them “hooked” to the Internet. Overall, the article has a lot to do with science, even if it may not include some science concepts.

I think that this article is important because not only does it have to do with most Americans, but it also is a fun current event about science/ technology. Before I read this article I didn’t know that the Internet determines if a person is more likely to be in a relationship or not. I mean, I knew that there were a few dating sites that actually help people, but I thought that most of society meets people the “old- fashioned way.” Therefore, this is an informative article with a topic that many people wouldn’t even think about.
