SUPER COWS

These super cows are commonly known as the Belgian Blue. These cows are at least one ton each and they are the biggest type of cows that are in the world. Just because these cows are so large, it doesn't mean that they are not natural or on steroid. These cows are so large for the reason that they have a gene that controls muscle growth. This type of gene is called myostatin. Scientist uses selective breeding to select the best gene for these cows. All these cows have their myostatin gene not working so that their muscles can grow twice as large. These cows are often shaved to show off their muscles.

This article is related to science because these cows are not "born" in a natural way. They are genetically engineered by scientist to be the way they are. Scientist have to select the gene that are the best for the future cow. They use selective breeding.

This is important to us because if cows can do this, so can us. It is now possible for us humans to do what this cow is doing. We can "select" our baby. You can give your baby the "best" by selective breeding.
