Chewing gum can reduce the consumption of sweet snacks comparing to when not chewing gum. Why? It’s because when you chew gum is associated with lower snack intake. Dr. Geiselman, a scientist, experienced gum chewing on women and men; he examined the macronutrient composition of the snack choices. For the experiment, they have 115 participants: regular gum chewer, and not a gum chewer. They are settled up in the laboratory with sandwiches for lunch, after 3 hours, they are offered a variety of snacks, like high sugar food and high complex carbohydrate food that contains either high or low fat in the product. As the result, people who chewed gum, decreased the feeling of hunger and craving for sweets. Therefore, gum chewer can maintain energy level throughout and can feel less drowsy. The potential role of chewing gum can control in appetite, reduction of cravings, and weight management.
