The affects of the BP oil spill on society

The article is "Gulf Spillover: Will BP's Deepwater Disaster Change the Oil Industry?" by Larry Greenemeier. The BP oil spill was a devastating ecological disaster we all know that but what are the effects on it on our society?, how does it affect the people on the coast this article takes a human look into the spill and its perspective of how it will affect the community government and the industry of fossil fuels. The spill not only destroyed the coast's ecosystem bur also has arisen new problems in the community in the gulf and the government's laws and regulation over the spill. The article also explains the probable affect on the oiling industry and green movement. The Oil industry will have to in a way compensate for the disaster and will need to succumb to the inevitable industry and oil drilling regulation reforms. As for the green movement experts say it is a "harsh gift", reason being is because the spill will and has influences environmental groups such as "National Resources Defense Council, the Sierra Club" and others. But also the article compares and contrasts this disaster with that of the Santa Barbara Channel oil spill in 1969. It explains of the economic dependence on the oil industry of the gulf compared to that of Santa Barbara.

This article displays scientific concepts because it gives a prime example of sociology. Sociology is the study of society, and here we see a great example of how a ecological disaster can shape, turn and mold into a sociological reform of the civilization's laws, it's governments infrastructure, and the populous' deviance. It is an ever changing field of science for we as humans are an ever changing species and sociology will help us reform in better ways and excel where in the past we have failed.

This article is article is important to the scientific community because it explains the hardships of the community of the spill and explains in detail how this BP is affecting the country as a whole. The article is a magnificent piece that explains the spill and sociological ramifications of the spill.
