Wild Cat Mimics Monkey Sounds to Capture Prey

Margays are wild cats that live in the Amazon. They are known for their camoflauged fur used to trick their prey but now they have another trick. They are copying the noises their prey, the pied tamarins, make to attract them and kill them. A study in 2005 showed that a group of pied tamarins were eating up a tree when they first heard the strange new sound. Some of them were curious and decided to find out where this noise was coming from and once they found out that is was the margay they screamed to warn the other monkeys to run.

This relates to science and biology because of the margays ability to copy the monkeys and trick them. The margays are smart and able to hide and then capture their prey more easily since mastering the noises.

We should care because if the ability to make this sound becomes an inherited trait than the population of their prey like the pied tamarins could be in danger. I don't think it will get to the point where they will become completely extinct because populations are always reproducing so there shouldn't be a shortage in these populations any time soon because of the new noises but you never know.
