Pollution has been an on going issue for quite a while now. It is not only killing our environment but its also putting animals and humans at risk. Scientists noticed that the measurement of the "garbage patch" in the Atlantic ocean has not increased over the past 20 years however they also noticed that humans use of plastic has increased over the past 20 years. So its leads them to ask where did all the plastic go? What scientist think might the reason for the patch not increasing is that sea creatures are consuming the plastic. A trigger fish that was found in the Atlantic ocean had 47 pieces of plastic in its stomach!
This relates to biology/science concepts because sea creatures are in danger due to this mysterious plastic disappearance. It is also destroying the ocean, in other words another ecosystem is endangered due to pollution.
This is important because people who eat sea food are now at risk. As we can see from the trigger fish many of these sea animals have tons of bits and pieces of plastic inside of them. Scientist are still trying to examine the "patch" and the pieces of plastic they did find to try to answer the question where did all the plastic go? we have one answer, inside the belly of the fish we eat. Recycle people!
