Violent dreams may predict illness in advance

Have you ever had a terrifying dream? Most people have, but was it so scary and violent that you lash out in your sleep punching and kicking the air? That's what happens with some people, majority of these people are men, it's a sleep disturbance disorder called REM, or RBD. A study found that people with RBD were most likely to develop a neurodegenerative disorder at least 15 to 20 years later. In one case RBD came before Parkinson's disease by 50 years. 50 years is a long time and was bewildering to scientists on why it took so long to diagnose.

This relates to science and biology because it could change some peoples futures. If scientists can come up with a way to prevent the neurodegenerative from developing years later. For exmaple if scientists could come up with a way to prevent Parkinson's disease, which is a neurologic disease that deteriorates peoples brain cells, from occuring in people who have RBD than it could save their lives.

We should care becasuse if you know someone with Parkinson's or any other kind of neurodegenerative disorder than you would want there to be a way to prevent it. It usually takes years to diagnose these disorders but in most cases it's to late to diagnose. If there was a way that scientists could use what they know from previous studies with people who have RBD than maybe they could do something about the diseases before they happed. If they can do that then a lot of people will be saved a lot of heartbreak.
