Salmonella helps treat Cancer?

Did you ever think that Salmonella would possibly be an ingredient for the treatment of Cancer? Salmonella is an infection that can cause serious diarrhea to your body. It usually affects people that eat raw food. In recent studies, scientists are starting to realize that Salmonella could possibly be an ingredient in a vaccine that could help treat certain cancers, such as melanoma. Apparently, scientists were already aware that Salmonella helps the immune system detect melanoma, but they never thought that it could actually treat the cancer cell. However, Salmonella isn’t too powerful to cure the cancer itself, but it could help the process. One experiment that scientists did was injecting Salmonella into a mouse that had melanoma cells, and they observed that the cells shrank. Fortunately, this success allowed scientists to start testing human immune and tumor cells, but they did actually inject a vaccine into the human. Instead, they just took the cells that were already out of the human and experimented with them. So the scientists mixed the tumor cells with Salmonella and then mixed it in with the humans immune cells, and they injected it into the body. This enabled the immune cells to detect certain tumors, which is a big plus for doctors and humans affected my melanoma. Even though this vaccine was only a “prototype,” scientists are trying to get approval for it to become a vaccine that can be tested on actual humans.

I think that this article relates to science because of course it has to do with cancer, plus also the importance of cells in general. This article informs readers on cells and how they can either have a negative or positive affect on one’s body. Also, it explains the process of coming up with new vaccines to help treat Cancer. Therefore, this article is most definitely science- related.

This article is vital because it informs readers on a new discovery that scientists adopted. Also, I feel that Cancer is an important issue overall and there aren’t as many cures for each type of the disease. Even though many people probably don’t know about melanoma, it is a serious cancer that should be known. Basically, this article has a lot to do with the medical field, therefore it deserves to be in magazines and science websites.
