HIV is a serious case of a sickness. No cure has been found for it. Even though many people nowadays suffer from this horrendous sickness and are put through various treatments, eventually they will succumb to it and die. They don’t die from HIV, but rather from the affects that HIV puts on the body. Either way, HIV is dangerous and makes the immune system of a human being go down. Moreover, it was announced at an international Aids Conference in Vienna, that antiretroviral-based vaginal microbicide gel(ARV), could put a stop to HIV once and for all by preventing it in the first place. These findings, though, implied that the line between HIV positive and HIV negative might become even thicker. This is because researchers believe that in the upcoming years, HIV will most likely be spread among heterosexual partners .The gel was used and it cut infection rates among the participating women in a province in South Africa by 39%. The gel contained 1% of the ARV medication, which is the same drug taken in pill form as part of an HIV treatment regimen.
In Africa, as mentioned in the article, one in every ten girls are affected by HIV by the time they are 16. By the time they are 24, one in every two will have it. That’s right– ONE in every TWO. The results of the ARV are very fascinating and appealing because it could possibly put an end to this if more research and time is put into it. In relation to science, researchers can find out what exactly is that causes HIV in people’s bodies and with the new treatment, finally put an end to it.
This article is important because, as mentioned before, no cure has been found for HIV. If a prevention strategy has been found, it is a great impact on everyone. We may all know at least one person, that unfortunately, suffers from HIV. This prevention strategy can then be used on them, and who knows, eventually even cure them, if more studies are put in into the gel. This also helps our society because if we, God forbid, are one day diagnosed with HIV, we know that this specific prevention strategy, will help cure us from the terrible sickness.
