ADHD Linked to Pesticide Exposure

ADHD is a problem that many people especially kids and teenagers have. In recent studies, scientista say that chemicals on our produce may contribute to the behavior problem in kids. the studies, that looked at pesticides called organophosphates, linked exposure to the chemical with attention disorder in children. Pesticides linger on fruits and vegetables, but it is still recommended for pregnant women because of its nutrients. when eating fruits and vegetables, its important to wash them thoroughly. Brenda Eskenazi, an epidemiologist and neuropsychologist and her colleagues did a long-term study on more than 300 Mexican-American women who were newly pregnant. the researches measures levels of pesticide breakdown products in their urine. After the children turned five, the researchers stated that kids who were exposed to OP pesticides in the womb were more likely to have attention disorder. in a third study, which involved more than 1, 000 children between the ages of 8 and 15 did not prove that the chemicals were the cause of ADHD. But based on different finding, researchers say people should still be concerned. To avoid exposure to OP pesticides, author Maryse Bouchard recommends buying organic fruits and vegetables, or produce from farmers market which is usually sprayed with less chemicals.

Organophosphates are a set of common pesticides that work by attacking and causing harm to the brain and nervous system of animals and humans. these chemicals stop a key enzyme called cholinesterase from working, and this can cause people to be ill. When humans are exposed to high levels of OP, they can develop anxiety, confusion impaired concentration and more serious symptoms.

This is important information for us to know because we eat fruits everyday (well at least we try to) and its important to know the dangers of what we consume. we go to supermarkets that claim to have fresh fruits, when actually their fruits are sprayed with many different chemicals to keep them looking fresh. many of these disease that people have come from the food that we eat, because most foods are processed. but if we want to eat organic food, we find ourselves spending way too much money. This article raises up our attention to the food we eat, and the possible harm it can do to us.

  2. I'm preety sure it won't affect you. It will affect you more if you eat something that has pesticides on it (something that is digestible)
