During the night of April 22, an explosion near the Gulf Coast had caused a major issue to the marine environment. This affected the drill oil from the ocean floor to leaked and contaminated. Not only it was contaminated, few people were killed, few were injured, but few escaped from the landform. The ocean is now polluted with oil and this threatens marine animals and people who are using the sources from the Gulf. The oil pollution may take awhile to clean up and may damage the environment. Then in May, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration claims that people have been eating contaminated fish from the Gulf, so they closed down fishing. According to the British Petroleum, they reported that the oil leaked ranged from 1000- 5000 barrels (42 gal.) per day! This is a HUGE amount of oil putting into the ocean. Because of this extreme oil spill, engineers are trying to figure out how much oil are actually escaping from the pipe, and observing the plume. They conclude with an estimate of 76k- 109k barrels of oil spill per day. Emergency workers are trying to clean up this oil spill and used different approach in cleaning the spill. They attempt all the ways, like the domes and the dispersant, but all the technique failed.
This relates to environmental science because the oil spill had affected the environment and making it unhealthy to human and organisms that is using the resources that was infected from the oil spill in the Gulf. It polluted the water and threats people with the use of the spill.
We should care because this can affect everyone’s health and may cause serious injury or death.
The natural environment is the home for every organism; therefore, it should stay clean and healthy. As I’ve read, the oily spilled had killed some people and had injured some people, so if this continue to spreads, it may kill every one of us.
